The White House announced this Monday that the president of the United States, Joe Biden, and the first lady, Jill Biden, will receive their French counterparts, Emmanuel Macron and Brigitte Macron, in the first state visit since the current president arrived at the power in January 2021.

The White House spokeswoman, Karine Jean-Pierre, has indicated that this meeting "will highlight the deep and enduring relationship between the United States and France". In this sense, he has pointed out that Paris is his "oldest ally"with which it shares democratic values, economic ties and cooperation in matters of defense and security.

"Leaders will discuss continuing our close collaboration on shared global challenges and areas of bilateral interest", he declared in a statement. In this sense, Jean-Pierre has referred to the war in Ukraine as the main global challenge.

"It is for these reasons that the President and First Lady have thought it important to welcome this close and valued partner to the White House for his first state visit."explained the spokeswoman.

Biden would have postponed the celebration of such an event due to the pandemic, since these visits include a formal dinner with high-level guests and a series of events.

Both leaders have had multiple conversations since Biden became president of the North American country, Jean-Pierre explained.
