Delhi Capitals’ winning streak came to an end in the season opener of IPL 2025.
They lost to Mumbai Indians by 12 runs at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.
Mumbai posted 205/9 in 20 overs, with Tilak Varma scoring 59 and Ryan Rickelton 41.
In response, Delhi Capitals were all out for 193.
A Thrilling Encounter
Karun Nair’s 89 off 51 balls kept Delhi in the game till the 12th over.
At that point, Delhi were 135/3 and needed 71 off 50 balls.
However, they failed to capitalize on the start and collapsed to 193 all out.
Karan Sharma, who came in as an Impact Player, took 3/36 in 4 overs and was named the Man of the Match.
Fine for Slow Over Rate
Delhi Capitals’ captain, Axar Patel, was fined ₹12 lakh for the team’s slow over rate.
This was their first offense under Article 2.22 of the IPL Code of Conduct, which deals with minimum over-rate offenses.
The fine is a reminder for teams to maintain a brisk pace during matches.
