The stage was set for a thrilling clash between the Lucknow Super Giants and Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2025 match on Friday. Lucknow emerged victorious, winning by 12 runs. However, their captain Rishabh Pant wasn’t entirely immune to the consequences of the game.
Pant has been slapped with a fine of 12 lakh rupees for slow over rate against Mumbai Indians. Spinner Ravi Bishnoi’s teammate, Rishabh Pant, wasn’t the only one to face action – spinner Ravi Bishnoi also got charged.
According to IPL rules, each team must complete 20 overs within 90 minutes. The Lucknow team failed to complete their 20 overs within the stipulated time against Mumbai Indians. This forced them to have one less fielder outside the 30-yard circle in the final over.
The BCCI released a press note stating that this was the team’s first offense of the season under Article 2.22 of the IPL Code of Conduct related to minimum over rate, hence Rishabh Pant was fined 12 lakh rupees.
Meanwhile, Lucknow’s spinner, Ravi Bishnoi, has been fined 50 percent of his match fee for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct for the second time. Bishnoi had earlier been fined half of his match fee for celebrating a wicket against Punjab Kings in a unique style, writing in a notebook. He repeated the act after getting Mumbai batsman Naman Dhir out.
As per the BCCI, this was his second offense under Article 2.5 of the Code of Conduct this season, and another demerit point has been added to his account. This takes the total demerit points against him to two.
