Bayern Munich is working on a contingency plan in case the signing of Xabi Alonso as their next coach does not materialize. According to reports from Sky Sports Germany’s Florian Plettenberg, the club is intensively looking at Roberto De Zerbi as a possible alternative to replace Thomas Tuchel at the end of the season.

Although Xabi Alonso was Bayern’s main target, the club is also considering other options in case his arrival does not materialize. The alternative candidates include Italian coach De Zerbi, who is positively supported by Max Eberl, an important figure in the club.

De Zerbi, 44, is currently linked to Brighton but his future with the English club could be in doubt due to a £20m release clause in his contract. In addition, FC Barcelona is also eyeing the Italian coach as a possible successor to Xavi Hernández, who will leave the club at the end of the season.

Hansi Flick is also considered a serious candidate for the Bayern bench, which shows that the Bavarian club is examining various options to find the right coach to lead the team in the next phase. With Xabi Alonso as the first option, De Zerbi is a solid alternative in case the original plan doesn’t work out.
