Adam Duvall and William Contreras homered to help Charlie Morton win for the first time in five starts in a game that featured the Atlanta Braves’ bats in a 9-2 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers on Sunday.
Matt Olson hit a two-run double during a four-run second inning. Duvall hit starter Aaron Ashby in the third and Contreras added a three-run homer in the fifth off Jandel Gustave to extend the lead.
The Braves hadn’t won in Morton’s last four starts (2-3), a streak that included a 7.85 ERA. But the 38-year-old right-hander walked three and he allowed two hits with five strikeouts in five scoreless innings.
The defending World Series champions won just their second series of the season in nine tries, improving their record to 14-16. The Brewers have lost two in a row, but still lead the NL Central at 19-10.
For the Brewers, the Venezuelan Omar Narváez, 3-0 and the Dominican Willy Adames, 3-0.
For the Braves, the Venezuelans William Contreras, 2-1 with a run scored and 4 produced and Ronald Acuña Jr., 4-2 with a run scored and an RBI; the Dominican Marcell Ozuna, 3-0.
