Barcelona move up for Cancelo

The future of “Joaos” at Barcelona has become a hot topic that concerns all Barcelona fans. Joao Cancelo and Joao Félix have been the subject of speculation and debate since their arrival at the club on the final day of the 2023 summer transfer window. Both Portuguese have made huge financial efforts to move to Barça and leave their previous teams Atlético de Madrid and Manchester City behind them respectively.

As the season progresses and Barcelona still have no clarity on their next coach, the uncertainty surrounding the future of these two talented players increases. In a recent interview on “The President Joan Laporta Podcast”, the Catalan club’s top manager gave some indications of the ongoing negotiations.

Laporta expressed the club’s willingness to keep both Joaos, either through a loan with an option to buy or by maintaining the current conditions with their home clubs. However, he emphasized that “Operation Cancelo” appears to be more advanced compared to “Operation Joao Félix”. Although he did not give exact figures, he suggested that the agreement with Manchester City was clearer than that with Atlético de Madrid.

Cancelo wants to stay at the Catalan club

For his part, Joao Cancelo expressed his desire to stay at Barcelona next season in an interview with the newspaper “A Bola”. Despite cutting his salary to join the club, the player stressed his commitment and ambition to fight for titles in Spain. Furthermore, he noted that his relationship with Manchester City and Pep Guardiola was broken, but that he had good memories of his time in the England team.
