The Reserve Bank reported this Thursday that will support with RD$100 million the communities declared in a state of emergency due to the damage caused by Hurricane Fiona, which hit the country on Monday.
Samuel Pereyra, general manager, indicated that the funds will be distributed through the Bank’s Volunteer Service, for the purchase of medicines, food, construction materials, home repairs and other vital needs.
“Our financial institution feels duty-bound to make an important contribution to Dominican families, at a time as crucial as this, when the country needs all sectors and institutions, whether public or private, to contribute with their best efforts. ”, commented Pereyra when making the announcement.
He added that this institutional contribution is part of the Bank’s social commitment of all Dominicans with the communities that were most affected by the atmospheric phenomenon.
The provinces declared in a state of emergency by the Executive Power, through decree 537-22, are La Altagracia, La Romana, El Seibo, Samaná, Hato Mayor, María Trinidad Sánchez, Duarte and Monte Plata.
The decree issued by President Luis Abinader authorized 21 state institutions to act immediately to provide medicine, food, the energy system, water supply and social assistance in general, education, and meet other needs in the areas most affected by the Hurricane Fiona.
The Banreservas Volunteering, through which the funds will be distributed, is the body that develops the Bank’s social plans in favor of vulnerable sectors, in addition to implementing environmental protection plans.
