As a result of the damage caused by Hurricane Fiona, the BHD bank announced that it is developing a comprehensive program with the aim of helping those Dominicans who were affected. The program includes the construction and reconstruction of destroyed homes in two communities in the province of El Seibo, for an amount of RD$45 million, as well as donations of RD$15 million to cover the needs of victims in different areas of the country.

Luis Molina Achécar, president of the bank, explained that “our purpose is to promote human progress. With this approach, beyond donations, we have worked on a comprehensive collaboration and support program that allows us to face the socioeconomic and environmental consequences that Hurricane Fiona has generated in vulnerable communities, in our clients and in our collaborators and their families.”

In that order, the agency will support 80 homes devastated by the hurricane in the Las Tunas and Las Dos Bocas communities of El Seibo. In these towns, only 15 houses were left in habitable conditions.

The project has been designed and executed by Guakía Ambiente, an organization directed by Michela Izzo, one of the winners of the Women Who Change the World Award in 2018.
