Bad Bunny SNL Host: ‘El Chavo del 8’ Quico Sketch, Super Bowl 2026 News

Bad Bunny sure knows how to make an entrance. He hosted and performed on Saturday Night Live recently, kicking off the show’s 51st season. But the real buzz came from a sketch that took everyone by surprise. Benito, as he’s also known, stepped into the shoes of Quico from El Chavo del 8, a beloved Mexican comedy that shaped generations across Latin America. It was a true cultural moment on a major stage.

This wasn’t just any skit. It ran for over four minutes and felt like a warm hug of nostalgia. The sounds were all there: classic laugh tracks, familiar sound effects, and catchphrases that brought back childhood memories. It truly honored the spirit of Roberto Gómez Bolaños, the show’s creator, known affectionately as “Chespirito.”

The cast brought the beloved characters to life. Marcello Hernández played El Chavo, while Sarah Sherman transformed into La Chilindrina. Bad Bunny, as Quico, was perfectly caricatured. He had those signature puffy cheeks, the sailor suit, and that unmistakable squeaky voice. Andrew Dismukes took on Don Ramón, and Chloe Fineman played Doña Florinda. Kenan Thompson gave us an “Americanized” twist as Mr. Stomach, a nod to Señor Barriga. The sketch even had a surprise guest: Jon Hamm popped up as Professor Jirafales.

The scene recreated many classic moments. There were funny misunderstandings, playful slaps, and even pies to the face. Of course, El Chavo cried in his barrel, a signature move. The dialogue was mostly in English, but it was peppered with Spanish phrases that got big reactions. It was a faithful adaptation, but with that special SNL touch.

During his opening monologue, Bad Bunny also touched on a huge piece of news. He spoke about being announced as the headliner for the Super Bowl 2026 halftime show. He shared his excitement, first in English, then in Spanish. “More than my own success, it’s an achievement for all Latinos who have opened doors,” he said. Then he playfully added, “And if you didn’t understand what I just said… you have four months to learn.”

What is your favorite ‘El Chavo del 8’ character?

This episode of SNL did more than just feature a global music superstar. It brought a piece of cherished Latin American television directly into mainstream American pop culture. It was a true celebration of Bad Bunny and a beloved show.
