Ayush Badoni equals MS Dhoni’s IPL record and joins special list

In the 26th match of the 17th season of IPL, a match was played between Lucknow Super Giants and Delhi Capitals where Delhi won the game by 6 wickets under the captaincy of Rishabh Pant. In this match, the Lucknow team had chosen to bat first after winning the toss in which they lost their first two wickets to the score of 41 and then seven wickets to the score of 94. From here, it seemed very difficult for Lucknow to get a contestable score in the game but 24-year-old youngster Ayush Badoni along with Arshad Khan took the score to 167. Ayush’s bat scored an unbeaten innings of 55 runs in 35 balls , equaling a special record set by Mahendra Singh Dhoni in the IPL.

Badoni’s second half-century ranked him 7th in the IPL

Ayush Badoni was sent on the field by the Lucknow Super Giants to bat in the match against the 7th ranked Delhi Capitals. After that, he led the innings from one end and also worked to increase the pace of runs. Ayush along with Arshad Khan created a partnership of 73 runs in 42 balls. With his unbeaten innings of 55 runs, Ayush also equaled Dhoni’s special record in IPL history. In the history of the IPL before this match, only Dhoni had played an innings of more than 250 runs as an Indian player while batting at the number 7 position, while Badoni, who had already achieved this feat once, did so by making him the second Repeat Dhoni’s record. Earlier, in the IPL 2023 season, Badoni had played an unbeaten innings of 59 runs while batting at No. 7 in the match against Chennai Super Kings at the Lucknow ground.

Andre Russell has played the most half-century innings at number 7 so far.

So far in IPL history, the record for playing the most half-century innings at position 7 belongs to Andre Russell, who has achieved this feat five times. Following this are the names of Ayush Badoni, Pat Cummins and Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who have achieved this feat twice each. Talking about Badoni, he has been a part of the Lucknow team since the 2022 season and has so far scored 483 runs in 33 matches at an average of 21.95, including three innings of half-centuries. Badoni has so far scored runs at a strike rate of 131.97.
