Avtur and kerosene will rise more than eight pesos; They will register their highest price in recent years

For the week of January 22 to 28, 2022, all fuels, with the exception of natural gas, will increase in price in the country. But avtur and kerosene will experience the highest increases recorded in recent years.

Starting tomorrow the avtur will go up by RD$8.70 and will be sold at RD$194.38; and kerosene will increase by RD$8.80, so it will cost RD$223.60. These prices are the highest that these fuels will have at least in the last eight years.

Both kerosene and avtur are used as jet fuel, among other uses.

When reviewing the price records of petroleum derivatives available at the National Statistics Office (ONE), whose data is based on the reports of the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Mipymes (MICM), it was possible to verify that kerosene has only cost more than RD$200 in 2014 and 2021, when it cost RD$205.70 and RD$209.80, respectively.

In the case of the avtur there are no records for every year, but the highest price recorded is RD$180.68, last year.

The other fuels will register increases of between two and five pesos.

Justification

The explanation of the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Mipymes (MICM) for these increases is that oil registered a record price and that, therefore, this impacts the local market.

According to the agency, a barrel of West Texas Intermediate (WTI) is around US$87, 17% more than it cost at the end of 2021.

This continues “putting upward pressure on the local fuel market and the Government continues to make great efforts to maintain price stability and prevent it from affecting citizens on a large scale,” says the statement released this Friday by the agency.
