At least one woman died and eleven other people, including three policemen, were injured this Monday in an explosion in a crowded market in the city of Karachi, in southern Pakistan, official sources said, explaining that the attack was carried out with a pump installed on a motorcycle.
"An improvised explosive device exploded at 9:00 p.m. local time (4:00 p.m. GMT) killing a woman and wounding eleven other people, including three policemen"A Karachi police officer, Abid Hussain, told Efe.
The source stated that, according to initial information, a bomb installed on a motorcycle exploded in the parking lot of the market, where the security forces launched a search operation.
Murtaza Wahab, a government spokesman for the southern province of Sindh, of which Karachi is the capital, said on Twitter that four people were seriously injured.
Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned the attack and promised "firm hand" against the authors of the same, which for the moment has not been claimed by any organization.
Sharif affirmed that all the provinces of the Asian country must reinforce the security to guarantee the protection of the Pakistanis and their properties.
This Monday is the third attack in the financial center of Pakistan in the last month.
One person died and at least nine were injured last Thursday in a the explosion of a bomb installed on a motorcycle, while on April 26 at least four people, three of them of Chinese nationality, died and another four were injured in a suicide attack perpetrated by a woman belonging to the Baluchi Liberation Army (BLA) separatist group.
Pakistan has experienced an escalation of violence insurgent, which especially affects this southwestern province, the largest in the country, and which is appreciated for its wealth of natural resources.
A violence that in Balochistan is being carried out by several armed organizations driven by separatist sentiments of the Baluchi ethnic group, including the BLA, which are demanding greater autonomy from Islamabad, amid accusations against the central government of unfairly exploiting its resources with the collaboration of Beijing.
