At least 100 dead in clashes in Nagorno-Karabakh

The balance sheet of losses is not definitive, especially on the fragile ceasefire had just been broken. At least a hundred Armenian and Azerbaijani soldiers were killed on Tuesday in the heaviest fighting since the war between the two countries in 2020. “Fifty Azerbaijani servicemen were killed following a large-scale Armenian provocation” on the border between the two countries, the Azerbaijani Ministry of Defense announced in a press release in the evening.

For his part, the Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinian reported in the morning that 49 Armenian soldiers were killed, during an intervention before the Parliament in Yerevan, while specifying that “this is unfortunately not the definitive number”. The two countries accuse each other of initiating hostilities.

On Tuesday, Baku assured that it had “fulfilled all its objectives” in the fighting on the border with Armenia. But accused his enemy of violating the ceasefire “in an intense way” a few hours later. “Despite a sharp decrease in the intensity of the bombardments, the enemy continues to try to advance,” said the Armenian Ministry of Defense.
