Association salutes announcement of new national flag airline

Asociación saluda anuncio de nueva línea aérea bandera nacional

The Dominican Association of Airlines (ADLA) welcomed the announcement by President Luis Abinader, to promote a national flag airline of Dominican capital.

“Our Association welcomes this important announcement that highlights the interest of President Abinader’s administration in giving a new impetus to the aviation industry by stimulating the existence of a major airline,” said Omar Chahin Lama, president of the entity.

“The statements offered by President Abinader at the 42nd edition of the International Tourism Fair (FITUR 2022), in which the country had an outstanding participation, renew our confidence that the authorities are working so that national aviation, which already has experienced and renowned operators, experience its definitive takeoff with clear and equitable rules for all actors, promoting the development of the tourism industry and therefore that of the national economy” added Chahin.

On numerous occasions ADLA has claimed that national air transport needs to have state policies that allow it to compete on equal terms and that promote the strengthening and growth of the national air offer, creating the ideal atmosphere to ensure its own structure that serves the interests of the country and its citizens.

Until now, Dominican airlines have been kept out of the reach of public policies that promote their healthy financial performance. This contrasts with foreign airlines, which do business in the Dominican Republic, since in their respective nations they have state support to ensure their productivity and growth, which generates an unequal scenario that hinders the efforts of Dominican airlines to be strong and competitive.

“In this sense, ADLA is optimistic about this announcement by President Abinader, which we trust will help guide Dominican aviation along the path of growth and sustainability,” he said.
