Australia has strengthened their control in the third Ash Test in Melbourne. With the help of three wickets, each from captain Pat Cummins and Nathan Lyon, Australia knocked England out by 185 in the opening innings of the first day of the game. Australia in response scored 61 to one at the end of the first day of play and was 124 runs behind England. David Warner (38) returned to the pavilion in the final moments of the match after a good start. James Anderson (1 of 14) was caught by Jock Crawley while in lane. Second starter Marcus Harris was at 20 when the stumps came loose while night watchman Lyon had yet to open his account.

Australia previously won the draw and decided to pitch first. Captain Cummins shook England’s top order while spinner Nathan Lyon closed the bottom order. Mitchell Starc took two wickets for 54 runs, while Cameron Green and Scott Boland, playing their first Test match, each got one wicket. England didn’t get off to a good start and by lunchtime they had scored 61 runs on three wickets. Following this, England also lost three wickets in the second session, including the wickets of captain Joe Root (50) and the dangerous Ben Stokes (25). Australia continued their dominance in the third session with their four remaining wickets.

The game started half an hour late due to the rain. Cummins got Haseeb Hameed (zero) caught by goalie Alex Carey in the second over. Following this, Cummins caught second starter Crawley (12) in the ravine in the eighth over to cut the score to 13 for two. David Malan (14) added 48 runs for the third wicket with Captain Joe Root. Cummins got Warner to catch Malan on the first slip and the last before lunch. Root, the world’s number two hitter, completed his half century on 76 balls. But soon after, Starc caught Carey with the ball off the stump, making the score 82 out of four.

Stokes tried to take an aggressive approach, but after cutting Green’s ball, he caught it on the fairway. Jos Buttler (3) caught in the middle of the field after playing an irresponsible shot against Lyon in the last over before the tea break. Boland, who made his test debut in his homeland, took his first wicket by firing Mark Wood (six) LBW. Jonny Bairstow, after scoring 35 runs, was caught off the street by Starc. Lyon fired tail hitters Jack Leach (13) and Ollie Robinson (22). Let us tell you that Australia is currently leading 2-0 in the five-game series.
