Lahore: A Muslim and his three sons have been booked under strict blasphemy laws for arguing with a cleric in Pakistan’s Punjab province. In a town near the Indian border, the defendant wanted the mosque cleric to announce to the mosque about the burial program of a Christian neighbor, but the clergyman refused to do so. Authorities said on Thursday that the incident took place on November 18 in the village of Khodi Khushal Singh near the Burki area on the border with India and that an FIR was registered against four people under the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) in the complaint of a member of the mosque committee. done.

The cleric alleged that the demand for a mosque advertisement by a dead Christian was an insult to Islamic laws, in addition to the four men who allegedly spoke out against Islam. According to the FIR, a woman went to Jamia Masjid Hashmatullah in the village and asked the cleric to announce the death of a Christian neighbor of the mosque. On this, the cleric told the woman that Islam allows only Muslims to announce funeral rites from the mosque.

According to the FIR, the woman returned home and told her husband about the incident. It read: “Her husband Umar Baksh and their three sons, Mazhar, Murad and Sahil, came to the mosque and questioned the Islamic laws regarding declaring the funeral rites of Christians or non-Muslims in the mosque. He also used derogatory language about the mosque and spoke against the cleric and Islam. ”

Regarding Maulvi Muhammad Mansha’s complaint, the police have registered a case of blasphemy against Umar and her three children. Three people related to Mansha have witnessed the case. Police officer Imran Hanif said that after the registration of the case, a police team was formed to arrest the suspects who escaped.

Tension has emerged between Muslims and Christians in the area after the incident and some Christian families have reportedly left the village in fear for their lives. Abuse of blasphemy laws is common in Pakistan and is often the victim of the minority community.
