Argentine Vice President Cristina Kirchner was subjected to a scheduled surgical intervention this Thursday, informed the spokeswoman for the presidency Gabriela Cerruti at a press conference.
Although he refused to provide details about the reason for the operation, sources cited by the local press indicated that it was a hysterectomy for a total uterus removal.

The spokeswoman also indicated that Kirchner "He communicated last night (Wednesday) with President Alberto Fernández to discuss this situation and the President conveyed his affection and desire for a speedy recovery".
Kirchner left his house at 06:30 local time (09:30 GMT) in the Recoleta neighborhood of the Argentine capital towards the neighboring Sanatorio Otamendi where the intervention was carried out.
In good spirits, the president greeted the press that were awaiting her departure, although she did not make a statement, according to television images.
Kirchner, 68, had undergone a routine check-up at the same private sanatorium in early October.
In 2012 she underwent surgery to remove her thyroid gland due to an adenoma and a year later a hematoma was removed from her head. In neither of the two surgeries did she have complications.
According to the sources cited by the local press, it is estimated that Kirchner will remain hospitalized for at least the next five days.
The intervention takes place in the final stretch of the electoral campaign with a view to the mid-term legislative elections to be held on November 14.
The ruling party plans to close the campaign next Saturday in the southern outskirts of Buenos Aires.
