Riyadh: Traces of Saudi Arabia’s oldest airport still exist, which is a center of interest for tourists and locals.
According to the Saudi website, traces of the country’s oldest airport still exist in the Al-Dawid area on the northern border of Saudi Arabia. The airport was built seven decades ago by a tape line company.
The ancient airport was built in the historic town of Al-Dawid, 20 kilometers south of the Al-Awaiqila Commissionerate.
The old airport had two runways built in the shape of the English letter Y. The main runway was 2,835 meters long and 45 meters wide.
The second runway was 2,332 meters long and 45 meters wide. Along with the ancient airport, workers’ quarters were also built at that time.
In this regard, historian and archaeologist Abdul Rahman bin Muhammad Al-Twaijri said that Al-Dawid village is considered as one of the most ancient villages, there are more than 200 freshwater springs in the area Used to be the best source.
The town of Al-Dawid used to have a large bazaar in the past, the remains of which are still standing today. At that time, trade caravans used to pass through here.
