Apple is exploring a new concept for its Apple Watch series – adding cameras to bring AI features to the smartwatch. According to Mark Gurman, a renowned journalist from Bloomberg, this move aligns with Apple’s goal of integrating AI-driven features into its devices.
The AI feature in question is called Visual Intelligence, which enables devices to respond to their environment using AI. This feature has already been introduced in the iPhone 16 series, running on iOS 18.2, and bears similarities to Google Lens.
Gurman predicts that Apple Watch models with cameras may be released as early as 2027. The standard Apple Watch is expected to have a camera module under the screen, while the Ultra version may have image sensors at the crown and power buttons.
In addition to smartwatches, Apple is also testing the integration of cameras into its AirPods earbuds to further expand the use of AI-driven features.
