Apple: M3 processor promises to surpass the mighty M2 Max

Closer to the end of 2023, Apple is expected to introduce a new generation of its processors. In addition to the expected A17 Bionic for the iPhone 15 Pro, the company also has the reveal of the M3 chip destined for its Mac products on the pipeline.

According to rumors, both components will be manufactured using 3nm lithography, which means they will have significant performance and efficiency gains compared to their predecessors. But as far as the M3 is concerned, the leap could be really impressive.

Early M3 benchmarks impress

It was through Vadim Yuryev that we received the first information about the synthetic performance of the upcoming M3. On his Twitter page, he posted what he claims to be Geekbench 6 tests performed on Apple’s future processor.

Apple’s M3 chip performance estimate on Geekbench 6 Single-core: 3472 Multi-core: 13,676 Let’s see how close I get when the chip actually hits. What are your thoughts and estimates? pic.twitter.com/2sw9tMW1HK

As anticipated, the M3 scored 3,472 points in single-core tests and 13,676 points in multi-core tests. The source talks about a performance estimate, so we need to add a pinch of salt to these numbers.

If these values are true, the new M3 outperforms some of the best processors Apple currently has on the market. These components are found in the new 14″ and 16″ MacBook Pro models.

According to the revealed values, the M3 is only 6% slower than the M2 Max in multi-core tests. However, when it comes to single-core tests, the next processor turns out to be 24% faster.

If the term of comparison is the M2 Pro, it is significantly 10% slower than the M3 in all scenarios. Something even more impressive if we take into account that the M3 should launch with eight cores, while the M2 Pro starts with 10 cores.

This approximation of performance between the different ranges of Apple processors forces us to be very cautious with the information revealed. But if this is true, imagine the performance gains that the future M3 Pro and M3 Max will bring to market.
