Abu Dhabi: A railway network is being established between the United Arab Emirates and the Sultanate of Oman, which will speed up transportation between the two countries.

According to an international website, a major agreement between the United Arab Emirates and the Sultanate of Oman will establish a railway network that will connect the two countries.

The developer and operator of the UAE national rail network has entered into an agreement with Sultanate of Oman Rail to establish a jointly owned company, to be called Oman Etihad Rail Company.

With a total investment of $3 billion, this upcoming infrastructure will connect Oman’s Sohar port to Abu Dhabi.

The 303-km railway will run state-of-the-art passenger trains that can reduce the travel time from Sohar to Abu Dhabi by one hour and 40 minutes, while the maximum speed of 200 km per hour from Sohar to Al Ain. The journey should be only 47 minutes.

Meanwhile, freight trains will run at a speed of 120 km per hour. The agreement was signed by Etihad Rail CEO Shadi Malik and Asyad Group CEO Abdul Rahman Salem Al Hatami.

The Abu Dhabi Government Media Office also announced in a tweet that under the agreement, the new company will create the foundation and work plan for the Etihad Rail project, including its financing mechanism and schedule.

The company will also handle the design, development and operation of the rail network that connects Sohar and Abu Dhabi to the standards of both countries.

Connecting the two countries through a railway track will create new opportunities in infrastructure, transport and logistics industries.
