Moscow: Russian President Vladimir Putin has announced a medal and prize money for women who give birth to 10 or more children in view of the declining population rate.
According to foreign media reports, the government has decided to reactivate the Soviet-era honorary title ‘Mother Heroine’. The move comes as a result of population declines in the war with Ukraine.

The title of ‘Mother Heroine’ was first introduced in 1944 by Joseph Stalin after World War II. The population was decimated by the mass casualties of Russian civilians in the war. The title was discontinued after the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991.
The population of Russia decreased by 86,000 people between January and May this year. Earlier in 2002, 57,000 people died in a single month.
