Amazon Web Services Outage Disrupts Major Global Websites and Apps

A technical failure within Amazon Web Services (AWS) infrastructure has caused widespread disruptions across numerous global websites and digital platforms, highlighting the critical reliance on centralized cloud services.

An interruption to Amazon’s core servers has affected a diverse range of online operations. Reports cited by The New York Times indicated problems for major platforms including Amazon itself, Venmo, Hulu, McDonald’s, and Coinbase.

The outage also impacted social networks, design tools like Canva, video conferencing service Zoom, and various telecommunications providers. Even artificial intelligence chatbots, notably those from OpenAI, experienced service interruptions.

The Guardian initially reported the general nature of the technical fault, confirming an extensive global impact.

Several affected platforms acknowledged the issues on social media, citing the AWS interruption as the cause of users being unable to access services.

The disruption extended to specific regional services. In Portugal, platforms such as Snapchat, Vodafone, Roblox, Perplexity, MEO, Fortnite, and Reddit registered problems with their services.

Digital banking services in the country also reported experiencing some interruptions.
