Alexis García: “the volleyball family is in mourning”

The Dominican Volleyball Federation (Fedovoli) lamented yesterday the sudden death of player Yennifer Ramírez, eldest daughter of sports immortal Soterio Ramírez.

“By this means we want to mourn and join the pain of the entire Dominican volleyball family for the irreparable physical loss of a great athlete of a great athlete from the Dominican Republic,” said Mr. Alexis Garcia, president of Fedovoli.

García defined Yennifer, who this Wednesday was found lifeless, presumably due to a heart attack, in the house where she lived in the United States, “as a nice, disciplined, punctual, responsible girl and dedicated to a sport that she loved as much as it was the volleyball”.

He extended a solidarity hug to Soterio and his wife Cristina Espinal for the death of Yennifer, who last Friday turned 29 years old and 6’3 tall.

For about seven years she lived in the United States, where she pursued a university career thanks to a scholarship obtained for her condition as a good volleyball player.

He was part of a family of high competition athletes who had his father Soterio as the anchor, motivation and advisor.

She was the cousin of the sisters Brayelin and Yineiry Martínez, two of the main players of “Las Reinas del Caribe”, as well as basketball players Jack Michael and Bryan Martínez.

“On behalf of the Fedovoli executive committee, in general, and me, in a particular way, we mourn the loss of Yennifer, who wore the national jersey in world and continental championships in both the youth and children’s categories,” Garcia stressed.

He said that the volleyball family, in a particular sense, and sports, in general, is in mourning for the sudden death of the athlete Yennifer Martínez, daughter of the immortal Soterio Ramírez, who last night made enormous efforts to travel to the United States.
