He said that with the completion of the Baní and Azua bypasses and other road infrastructures that the Government, through the MOPC, is building in the south, the distance from the capital to these municipalities will be reduced by at least one hour.

In his words, Minister Deligne Asención indicated that the road that begins today to connect El Cercado with Hondo Valle has a length of 22 kilometers and it will be finished, fulfilling President Abinader’s promise to benefit more than 50,000 inhabitants of Elías Piña and San Juan with this work.

He added that this will directly impact the communities of El Cercado, Pinar Grande, Los Arroyos, Los Guineos, Juan Santiago, Los Botados, Rancho de la Guardia, El Cruce, Club de la Frontera, Cañada Negra and Hondo Valle.

Ascención said that historically the south of the country had been marginalized from investments in road works that allow its inhabitants to have access to the main urban centers and facilitate their mobility possibilities to other localities for health, study or any other reasons. .

“The absence of secondary roads, the neglect of local roads and the deterioration of existing roadsthroughout the area of ​​the so-called Valle Region, made up of the provinces of San Juan de la Magüana and Elías Piña, prevent the producers of this fertile land from taking their products to the markets and discourages private investment, marginalizing thousands of Dominicans living in these two provinces from human development,” the official said.

The Minister of Public Works took advantage of the occasion to report that more than RD$269 million is being invested, with funds from the Inter-American Development Bank, in the repair of local roads in the province of San Juanin the towns of La Lima, El Ingenito, La Ciénaga, Boca de los Arroyos, La Seiba, Aventura and La Higüera.

He said that, in addition, with funds from this program another RD$100 million are being invested in the construction of the local roads of Cañada Miguel, Aniceto Martínez, La Zahonada, Gajo del Moño and Hondo Valle.

He reported that On May 2, a second stage of this Agroforestry Improvement program will begin, with a new investment of RD$104 million, earmarked for the rehabilitation of the local roads of Arroyo Cano, Jaguar, El Hático, Las Matas, Punta Caña, Palo Quemado, Hato Nuevo, the Wall of the Sabaneta Dam, Los Fríos, the Carpintero, Agua de Liborio, Maguana Abajo y Arriba, Yabonico, Los Copeyes, Al Palero, Córbano and Hato del Padre.
