The President of the Republic, Luis Abinader, in his speech this morning, was in favor of achieving, through the National Salary Committee, a increase in minimum wage in private sector companies above cumulative inflation.
“I am instructing the Minister of Labor to convene the National Wage Committee in the coming days with the aim of achieving an increase in private sector wages that is above the accumulated inflation since the last increase,” after offer employment data and compare the purchasing power of minimum wages through a tool proposed by young people.

After this, Abinader said that general monetary poverty in the Dominican Republic went from 23.9% in 2021 to 21.8% in 2022, which represents a reduction of 2.1 percentage points.
He said that despite the consequences of the pandemic and international inflation, 200,000 Dominicans they increased their income to get out of the poverty level last year.
“This behavior was the result of the good performance of the Dominican economy during the year and the increase in employment. The fourth quarter stands out in particular, when a general monetary poverty level of 19.6% was registered, the lowest ever observed in the country,” said the president.
