Aamir Khan has been active in the film industry for over three decades. With a treasure trove of stories and anecdotes, he recently shared a fascinating tale about his uncle, Nasir Hussain, and the legendary Dev Anand. The story dates back to the time when Nasir Hussain was directing the film “Teesri Manzil” and Dev Anand was set to play the lead role.
Nasir Hussain was close friends with Vijay Anand, who was directing another film, “Baharon Ke Sapne”, starring Dev Anand and the then-newcomer Rajesh Khanna. During a party to celebrate Sadhana’s engagement, Nasir Hussain overheard Dev Anand complaining about being assigned a relatively smaller film, “Baharon Ke Sapne”, while he was directing a bigger project.
This led to a heated argument between Nasir Hussain and Dev Anand, with both actors eventually getting into a physical altercation. Aamir Khan recounted the incident, saying, “Nasir sahab and Dev Anand started fighting, and it went to the extent that they began hitting each other.” When Sadhana was later asked about the incident, she confirmed that the two were indeed drunk and fighting.
The aftermath of the fight led to a significant change in the cast of “Teesri Manzil”. Nasir Hussain decided to take over the direction of “Baharon Ke Sapne”, while Vijay Anand directed “Teesri Manzil”. As a result, Dev Anand was replaced by Shammie Kapoor in the film. Aamir Khan’s anecdote offers a glimpse into the intricacies of the film industry and the relationships between its legends.
