South Korea has imposed a total fine of 71 million dollars on Google and Meta. The fine was imposed on both companies for using the private information of customers without their permission.

It was reported by a foreign news agency that South Korea’s Personal Information Protection Commission has said after research that user data is being obtained and used by American companies Google and Meta.

Apart from this, the records of the users’ application usage and website visits were also monitored.

This data (personal information) is used in online advertising. Google or Meta did not seek prior notice or permission from South Korean users before using the data.

South Korea fined Google $49.7 million and Meta $38 million.

This is the largest fine imposed on any company for violating the Personal Information Protection Act in South Korea.
