A priest murdered in Vendée, Gérald Darmanin goes there

The lifeless body of a priest was found this Monday, August 9, in the town of Saint-Laurent-sur-Sèvre, located near Cholet (Maine-et-Loire). A man turned himself in to the police on charges of the murder.

The individual, a Rwandan citizen, presented himself to the Mortagne sur Sèvre gendarmerie saying that he had just killed the priest. He was detained.

The suspect is also that of the Nantes cathedral fire on July 18, 2020. In recent months he was under judicial control and had asked the victim’s religious community to take him in within the framework of this judicial control.

In fact, it had stayed there for several weeks. The body was found on the ground floor of the building where members of the community live.

Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin reacted quickly by assuring “all (his) support for the Catholics of our country after the dramatic assassination.” He said he would be there and is expected to arrive around 5:30 pm
