The basketball legend is still successful. This Sunday, October 24, a pair of sneakers worn by Michael Jordan 37 years ago was auctioned at Sotheby’s in Las Vegas, for the very tidy sum of 1.5 million dollars, a record.
It was during the fifth game of his first season with the Chicago Bulls, in 1984, that Michael Jordan put on his red and white sneakers designed by Peter Moore and which have become iconic for all basketball fans. The 58-year-old former athlete also wore them the following year, 1985.
On Twitter, the auction house welcomed this historic sale. “The most valuable athletic shoes ever offered for auction, the 1984 Nike Air Ships worn by Michael Jordan during the regular season, just sold for $ 1,472,000 at our luxury sale in Las Vegas,” could – read in the press release.

A very lucrative market
Last April, a pair of Nike Air Yeezy 1 sneakers worn by Kanye West sold for $ 1.8 million. A sum that makes you dizzy when the sports shoe market has never been so successful. Last summer, a pair of Nike Air Jordans sold for $ 615,000 at auction organized by Christie’s.
