Kamonnan Thiamphanit murder: 18-year-old extradited from Dubai and charged

A two-year international manhunt concluded this weekend. An 18-year-old man was extradited from Dubai to the UK and charged with the murder of Kamonnan Thiamphanit. Enzo Bettamio landed in London on Friday. He is scheduled to appear in custody at Westminster Magistrates’ Court today.

Thiamphanit, 27, was discovered with fatal stab wounds at her residence in Stanhope Place, Bayswater. The discovery occurred on the morning of April 8, 2024. Friends and family knew her as Angela. Detectives suspected the killer fled the country shortly after the attack. This triggered global alerts, according to a Metropolitan Police statement confirming the formal murder charge.

The successful return of Bettamio required long-term coordination between British authorities and world law enforcement agencies. The Metropolitan Police worked directly with the Crown Prosecution Service’s specialized Extradition and International Units to finalize the transfer from the United Arab Emirates. Bettamio has no fixed address.

The Role of International Units in the UAE Transfer

The successful extradition from Dubai marks a specific operational victory for the Crown Prosecution Service. Securing a suspect from the UAE requires extensive legal alignment between two distinct judicial systems. By utilizing specialized international units, British police bypassed standard jurisdictional delays. This weekend’s court appearance officially shifts the two-year investigation into the active prosecution phase.
