Ferrari’s Mid-Season Woes Continue to Puzzle Damon Hill
In a recent episode of the official F1 World Championship podcast, ‘F1 Nation’, former world champion Damon Hill has once again expressed his concerns over Ferrari’s performance, particularly in the context of their drivers, Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz.
Hill, who has previously praised Sainz’s leadership qualities, has suggested that the 55-year-old driver seems more adept at navigating difficult situations on the track, unlike Leclerc.
"It’s a mystery to me why Carlos seems to be able to fight his way out of tough situations and do more with the tools at his disposal than Charles," Hill stated. "That’s who stays, you know?"
Hill further elaborated on his thoughts, criticizing Ferrari’s strategy and support for Leclerc, stating that the Monegasque driver appears "a bit confused" and does not receive the right guidance from his team.
On the other hand, Hill has praised Sainz for his ability to take control of situations on the track, asserting himself and demonstrating a clear approach to racing.
"Instead, Carlos seems to be taking control of the situation. He asserts himself and says, ‘This is how I do it.’ Maybe that gives the strategists more confidence, which they don’t have with Charles," Hill said.
With Ferrari struggling to find consistency and pace, Hill believes that the Italian team has a chance to turn their fortunes around at the upcoming Hungaroring race, alongside McLaren and Mercedes, who are also expected to be competitive. According to Hill, Red Bull has reached its limit, and there will be opportunities for other teams to capitalise on their rivals’ weakness in the second half of the season.
