Star Wars: John Boyega has made peace with Disney

Everything leads to believe that the actor cannot find a job… To the point of turning his jacket around with the firm with the big ears. After leaving for many years on a crusade against disney as a result of his character’s treatment during Star Wars 9: The Rise of Skywalker, John Boyega proclaimed himself a spokesperson for the black community at Hollywood. The death of george floyd and the movement Black Lives Matter transfigured the actor, to the point where he openly took the risk of being blacklisted from the studios by his commitment. Result, since the fiasco of Pacific Rim 2 where he held the central role, he only appeared in the cinema within the film The Woman King of Gina Prince Bythewood. In all the interviews that followed, the actor never went back on his statements, contenting himself with driving the point home, even if it meant being incoherent.

In a new interview with the media IndieWirethe interpreter of finn surprised his world by showing this time, a recognition towards disney to have been able to play in postology Star Wars :

“For me, Star Wars made me the man I am in a way. The experience, the good times, the good times, the bad times, the ugly times is what builds you as you move up in the industry. And it was definitely interesting. I think I’m pretty happy with what JJ (Abrams) tried to do to wrap up my arc. And since then, I have been able to enjoy, as a fan, The Mandalorian and Obi-Wan Kenobi. I enjoy it better now. »

A reversal of jacket which is nonetheless quite surprising. Here’s what the actor had to say September 2020 :

“What I want to say to Disney is don’t create a black character, sell him as if he’s more important to the franchise than he really is, and then let him go. It’s not good, I tell you directly. Like, you guys knew what you were doing with Daisy Ridley, you knew what you were doing with Adam Driver. You knew what to do with them, but when it came to Kelly Marie Tran (Pink Tico)when it came to John Boyega (Finn), you don’t fucking know anything. So what do they want me to say? What they want me to say is “I loved participating (at postology), it was a great experience…” No, no, no. I’ll tell you when it’s really a great experience. They gave a lot of nuance to Adam Driver, a lot of nuance to Daisy Ridley. Let’s be honest, Daisy knows it, Adam knows it. I’m not revealing a secret. »

John Boyega after all, could not bear to be gradually relegated to a tertiary role after having known glory in the advertising campaigns of the Force Awakens. Except that this gradual decline in the actor’s screen time is not due to his skin color but to the interest in his character, which only arouses little (if at all) of interest. There is no doubt, however, that disney should remain well impervious to his reversal of thought.
