War in Ukraine: the bodies of two British volunteers have been recovered

The announcement took place on the sidelines of a prisoner of war exchange. The bodies of Christopher Parry and Andrew Bagshaw, two British aid workers killed in Ukraine, have been recovered as part of a transaction between kyiv and Moscow, Ukrainian authorities said on Saturday February 4.

The two volunteers were killed in January while attempting a humanitarian evacuation from the town of Soledar, the scene of intense clashes since the start of 2023. The operation consisted more specifically of transporting an elderly person, such as the underlines the Guardian (article in English), but had been stopped short by a fatal artillery fire. They had been missing for several weeks, and the leader of the Wagner group, Evguéni Prigojine, assured on January 11 that his fighters had found the body of one of them in Soledar.

Andriy Yermak, head of the administration of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, also declared that the body of Evgen Kulyk, a Ukrainian passed through the French Foreign Legion before joining the Ukrainian forces, had also been handed over to kyiv during this exchange.
