New Delhi. Devendra Jhajharia, who won three medals including two golds at the Paralympics, was awarded the Padma Bhushan, while eight players including Tokyo Olympics champion Neeraj Chopra were selected for the Padma Shri on Tuesday. Jhajharia, 40, won gold medals in the javelin throw at the 2004 Athens Paralympics and the 2016 Rio Paralympics, while she won a silver medal at the Tokyo Paralympics last year.
Chopra made history by winning a gold medal in the javelin throw at the Tokyo Olympics. He is only the second Indian player to win an individual gold medal at the Olympics.

Before him, shooter Abhinav Bindra had won the gold medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Other players who received the Padma Shri include 20-year-old para shooter Avani Lekhara, para badminton Pramod Bhagat and para javelin thrower Sumit Antil.
Sankaranarayanan Menon Chundail, 93, who specializes in the art of Kalaripayattu, a form of martial arts, former international martial arts champion Faizal Ali Dar, 67-year-old former captain of the Indian football team Brahmanand Sankwalkar, and female hockey player Vandana Kataria, 29, was also selected for the Padma Shri is gone.
