A 28-year-old man with a history of crime is heading to prison for 18 months. He escaped from a police station in San José on Thursday.
The police said he took advantage of a busy moment to slip away. He ran out of the building through a parking area and hid nearby.
Earlier that day, the police launched a search operation. They even went into homes in the area to look for him. Eventually, they found him hiding in a barbecue restaurant.
This wasn’t his first brush with the law. He had stolen a pair of expensive shoes worth $5,000.
The man was initially arrested for suspected involvement in several thefts and damages at a social club, gym, homes, and businesses in San José. These crimes happened between December 2024 and April 2025.
He was convicted of four thefts, one of which was considered aggravated, as well as attempted theft, receiving stolen goods, and escaping from custody. After serving his 18-month sentence, he will be released from prison.
