Zou Jingyuan Becomes Four-Time Parallel Bars World Champion

Chinese gymnast Zou Jingyuan secured his fourth world title on the parallel bars today, reinforcing his status as a dominant force in the sport at the World Gymnastics Championships in Jakarta, Indonesia.

Zou’s near-perfect routine earned 15.300 points, highlighted by an impressive 9.300 execution score. This placed him 0.8 points ahead of Japan’s Tomoharu Tsunogai, who finished with 14.500 points. Russia’s Daniel Marinov, competing under a neutral flag, took the bronze medal with 14.466 points.

This latest victory adds to Zou’s two Olympic gold medals from the Tokyo 2020 Games. He also holds previous world titles in the discipline from Montreal (2017), Doha (2018), and Liverpool (2022).

The final day of competition also saw the Philippines’ Carlos Yulo win the vault final. This marked his second medal in Indonesia, following a bronze he secured on the floor exercise.

On the women’s side, China’s Zhang Qingying claimed the balance beam title with an exceptional score of 15.166 points. This win came after she earned a bronze medal in the all-around competition earlier in the week.

Zhang comfortably surpassed Algeria’s Kaylia Nemour, who scored 14.300 points. Nemour collected her second medal of the week after winning the uneven bars on Friday. Japan’s Aiko Sugihara took the bronze on the balance beam with 14.166 points and had also won gold on the floor exercise with 13.833 points.

In the high bar final, American Brody Malone emerged as a two-time world champion in the event, having first won in 2022. Malone, who has recovered from a knee injury, scored 14.933 points.

His performance dethroned Japan’s Daiki Hashimoto, who finished with 14.733 points. Hashimoto left Indonesia with two medals, including the general all-around title won on Wednesday. Britain’s Joe Fraser earned the high bar bronze.

The United States concluded the championships with two titles in Jakarta. This includes Donnell Whittenburg’s rings victory on Friday, even with star gymnast Simone Biles notably absent from the competition this post-Olympic year.
