Zara and Pull&Bear workers call strike again

Zara and Pull&Bear will have a “moved” sales campaign. The CGT and USO unions They have called for next January 7, the first day of sales, a day of strike. The Inditex brands that will claim the salary improvements are Zara (including Lefties and Kiddy’s Class) and Pull&Bear.

The General Confederation of Labor (CGT) stated at the end of November that they would carry out a national appeal between the teams of the different stores so that the salary conditions were equated in the different lines of the Galician company. However, it must be taken into account that the majority unions in Inditex are the CCOO and UGT (they have the support of more than 90% of the workforce), and they have decided not to support the strike.

Nor will the Galician Inter-Union Confederation (CIG) participate, which managed to force the agreement in the last strike. If this had not been the case, the workers would have organized another strike on December 23rd.

The conditions reached on December 22 will allow the company’s workers in the province of A Coruña (which are around 1,500 to 1,600 people) to have a monthly increase in bonuses salaries. However, this is not the only request from the CGT. Other requests are:

  • Salary increase of 250 euros per month for workers with days of 15 hours or less;
  • The equalization of the payment of Sundays as holidays;
  • Granting of the same benefits and social assistance that workers in other Inditex departments already enjoy.

The CCOO union has announced that they have opened a channel of communication with the company and that they are seeking a solution for the company to unblock the provincial agreement. «We have asked the Inditex Group to negotiate application measures throughout the Group that address, in the short and medium term, the loss of purchasing power» reported a couple of months ago the CCOO and the UGT.
