The Italian sun seems to be working wonders for Zac Efron and Nina Dobrev. The two stars look incredibly happy while on vacation with friends. Could romance be brewing for the pair?
On Saturday, September 20, social media account Deux Moi shared some revealing photos. Efron, 37, and Dobrev, 36, were spotted on a yacht. They weren’t alone, though. They were joined by friends Chase Crawford, Miles Teller, and Kaleigh Teller. In one snap, the Vampire Diaries actress, wearing a pretty floral dress, seemed quite comfortable. She and Efron, who sported a white baseball cap backward and a white button-up shirt, appeared to be deep in conversation over something on his phone.
Another photo captured Efron and Dobrev sharing a laugh. Both of them were beaming as they looked out ahead. These weren’t their first sightings together either. The duo had been seen aboard the yacht with Crawford and the Tellers just two days earlier, on Thursday, September 18. Pictures shared online showed Dobrev, in a low-cut swimsuit, and Efron, in black swim trunks, taking turns swimming in the clear blue sea. Kaleigh Teller herself had previously posted more pictures of the group enjoying their time off the Italian coast that same day.
So, what’s the deal between Efron and Dobrev? Neither star has publicly talked about their relationship status. Us Weekly has tried to reach out to their representatives for comments, but no word yet.
The timing of these fun outings is interesting. They come just a week after Dobrev and Shaun White called off their five-year relationship. Their split happened on September 11. In the days following the breakup, a source close to the situation told Us that cheating had nothing to do with why they ended things. "There was no infidelity at all during their five-and-a-half-year relationship," the source shared. "They were very loyal to each other. Any online rumors saying otherwise are just silly."
The same source also made it clear that both White and Dobrev wanted to start a family. "Both wanted a family," they added. "It’s not that one desired it more than the other."

Dobrev and White first started rumors of a romance in 2020. They officially confirmed they were a couple in April of that year. In October 2021, White explained to Us how they kept their long-distance relationship strong. "We have a really good system for staying in touch," he said at the time. "We almost always have plane tickets booked for any chance to see each other. So I know during the holidays we’re going to meet up and we’ll probably meet up for Christmas too. If anything comes up in between, then I sneak away to see her. You just have to make it work."
White had popped the question to Dobrev in October 2024. A source told Us then that "Nina was completely surprised, and they’re both incredibly happy." It seems their love story took an unexpected turn since then. Now, all eyes are on Dobrev and Efron, wondering what’s next for them.
