Actress Yami Gautam has shared her perspective on the often-discussed topic of industry awards, noting that despite a career spanning over a decade and numerous acclaimed performances, major accolades have largely eluded her. Currently busy promoting her upcoming film, ‘Haq,’ Gautam addressed how she feels about nominations not translating into wins.
Speaking to a media outlet, Gautam expressed that not winning these awards does not bother her. She referenced the Bhagavad Gita, stating that from her understanding, Lord Krishna’s words to Arjuna hold true. She emphasizes the importance of detaching oneself from the fear of success and failure, and from the need for external validation.
Gautam further explained her philosophy, saying she has ceased seeking validation from others. She believes that whether an award makes her a good actress or not is irrelevant to her self-perception. This mindset allows her to remain grounded in her work and audience connection.
Her journey in Bollywood began with the 2013 film ‘Vicky Donor,’ for which she received several Best Debut Female awards. While subsequent years brought more nominations for her compelling roles, major wins have been sparse. However, Gautam now finds her recognition in the audience’s response.
She views the love from her audience and the willingness of directors and producers to collaborate with her as the greatest awards. For her, other forms of recognition are fleeting, though she acknowledges their value if they bring happiness to others.
On the professional front, Yami Gautam is set to star alongside Emraan Hashmi in the courtroom drama ‘Haq.’ The film is inspired by the landmark Shah Bano case and features Gautam as a Muslim woman who challenges the legal system to secure alimony after her divorce. Directed by Suparn S Varma, ‘Haq’ is slated for release in theaters on November 7.
