Xiaomi’s most advanced smartphone, the Xiaomi 12S Ultra, hits stores in China’s local market today. It is the most ambitious mobile of the brand led by Lei Jun, presented along with the Xiaomi 12S, Xiaomi 12S Pro and Xiaomi 12 Pro Dimensity Edition last week.
Unfortunately for European consumers, this is one of the phones we won’t be entitled to, much to the chagrin of the brand’s most dedicated fans. Note that this is the smartphone model that debuts the association with Leica, equipped with a 1-inch image sensor, developed by Sony, with a resolution of 50 MP.
Xiaomi 12S Ultra marks the beginning of a new era within Xiaomi
Although this mobile does not reach Europe through the official channels of the brand, this does not prevent Xiaomi from spreading it through its social networks. We see, for example, the brand’s global page highlighting its main selling points, naturally focusing on photographic capabilities thanks to the partnership with Leica.
Above we have an example of this, with the video detailing the construction details of the Xiaomi 12S Ultra. First of all, we focus on the main cameras, with the large central module, flanked by two other cameras and respective sensors.
There is also a lot of emphasis on the leather-like (synthetic) material that covers the smartphone, something similar to what we find in Leica cameras. We also have the 24K gold rim (ring) that covers the circular element on the back.
The highlight is Sony’s latest and greatest image sensor. Highlight, above all, the physical size of the sensor, now with an inch diagonal, capturing more light than any other rival on the market.
In addition to the new sensor, we have a whole set of optics to compose the lenses used in the Xiaomi 12S Ultra. These optical elements were developed in collaboration with Leica to ensure the best quality of the 8 optical elements (8p) in the cameras.
Leica’s mastery of Xiaomi 12S Ultra cameras
More specifically, the triple camera of the Xiaomi 12S Ultra is made up of three sensors also approved by Leica, with ultra wide-angle optics (48 MP) with a viewing angle of 128º. The third camera, also 48 MP, is equipped with an increase of up to 120 times. However, the main sensor has a higher resolution at 50 MP, with a 1-inch diagonal.
Finally, it is possible that the Xiaomi 12S Ultra will arrive in Europe through some online sales platforms. However, the manufacturer is unlikely to make it officially available in Europe.
