WPL 2025 Alyssa Healy Exits Tournament Due To Injury

The Women’s Premier League (WPL) schedule was announced by the BCCI in January, with the tournament set to begin on February 14. As a result, the five participating teams have been preparing for the event. However, the UP Warriors team has suffered a significant setback with the news that their captain, Alyssa Healy, will not be playing in the entire WPL 2025 season.

Alyssa Healy has been struggling with a stress injury in her right leg for a long time. She announced that she would not be able to participate in the WPL season after the Australian women’s team won the pink ball test match against the England women’s team on February 1. The UP Warriors team had played under Healy’s leadership in the first two seasons, reaching the qualifier in the first season and finishing fourth in the second season.

The UP Warriors team will now appoint a new captain for the upcoming WPL season. Deepti Sharma, a spin all-rounder who has been part of the team since the initial season, is currently leading the race for the captaincy. Sharma has taken over the responsibility of captaincy in some matches in the absence of Healy. The WPL 2025 season matches will be played in four cities: Vadodara, Bengaluru, Lucknow, and Mumbai, with the UP Warriors team getting a chance to play on their home ground in Lucknow.
