World’s oldest cricketer Ilene Ashe dies at the age of 110
London. Eileen Ashe, the oldest cricketer in the world, died at the age of 110. The Cricket Board of England and Wales (ECB) released this information on Saturday. Ash played seven test matches for England before and after WWII. She took 10 wickets with an average of 23. Ash made her debut against Australia in 1937 and was the oldest cricketer in the world at the time of her death. She was part of the team that went to Australia on the Ashes tour in 1949. Additionally, she represented ‘Civil Service Women’, ‘Middlesex Women’ and ‘Women of the South’ in domestic cricket.

“The Cricket Board of England and Wales is deeply saddened by the passing of Eileen Ashe at the age of 110,” the ECB said in a statement.
The London player had also rung the bell ahead of the 2017 Women’s World Cup final in which England defeated India in a thrilling match.

Aside from his cricket career, Ash also worked for the secret intelligence service ‘MI6’ during WWII. Former England cricketer Claire Connor, who is also the ECB’s managing director of women’s cricket and president of the Marylebone Cricket Club, mourned her death.
