Fighting against a dangerous disease like cancer is equal to fighting life or death. Actress Vicky Kaushal’s father, Sham Kaushal, also had to deal with stomach cancer and won this battle. Yet, as you can imagine, how difficult the journey must have been for him to beat cancer. Even thoughts of committing suicide began to come to his mind. But in this battle against cancer, he got the support of his loved ones and managed to win this battle.
Vicky’s father turned 42 working in the night movie industry. On this occasion, he also expressed his pain from the battle against cancer in the conversation.
People in the film industry also supported him in his fight against cancer that evening. In particular, he mentioned filmmaker Anurag Kashyap. He recounted how Anurag refused to work on the movie ‘Black Friday’ without him. Sham also tried to return the signing amount from him, but he did not take it and said that work on the film will start only when he is completely well and he cannot work again.
Speaking to TOI about his stomach cancer, Sham said that in September 2003, after returning from the shooting of Hrithik Roshan’s film ‘Lakshya’, he suddenly started having stomach pain. Later, during the filming of Shyam Benegal’s movie ‘Netaji Subhashchand Bose’, he decided to get a checkup at Nanavati Hospital in Mumbai.
Sham also revealed that he once visited Nanavati Hospital with actor Nana Patekar. After the overnight surgery, the doctors told Nana that she had been diagnosed with stomach cancer. He was treated for about a year and then his health gradually improved.
Sham Kaushal said: “I didn’t know if he would be alive or not. I didn’t tell anyone about this.” Sham had been so angry about his illness that he had even decided to kill himself. He said, “I felt that there was no chance for him to survive. I have even decided that I will give my life by jumping from the third floor, because I cannot live like this.
