When Sunil Dutt saved Nargis’s life by throwing himself into a fire, the two were married after a year.

After escaping the India-Pakistan partition riots, Sunil Dutt had settled back down with his family. When he enrolled in Jai Hind College, he got a job in college radio after having a strong voice and a good command of Urdu. It was difficult to survive due to lack of money, so Sunil also agreed. For radio, he had the opportunity to interview many famous stars of that time like Nargis, Nimmi, Dev Anand. One day, Sunil had to go to the set of Shakast to interview Dilip Kumar. As he was sitting here waiting for Dilip Sahab, director Ramesh Sehgal saw him.

A tall young man with a gravelly voice awaited the interview, but Ramesh searched his face for his next hero. Ramesh immediately asked, will you work on my film? Sunil had no reason not to. Ramesh was so excited that he had Sunil change into Dilip Kumar’s suit on set and did a screen test. Sunil, who was already part of the theater, had acting skills, so the matter ended there. Sunil entered the cinema from the 1955 film Platform Railway and won the hearts of the people. After working in many movies, he got a lot of popularity all over the country thanks to Mother India.

While working for radio during college, Sunil also had the opportunity to interview Nargis. But because she was a minor personality at the time, Sunil couldn’t question Nargis, the most successful actress at the time, in a panic. In 1958, they had the opportunity to work together on Mother India.

In the film, they both played the role of mother and son, but the accident on the set brought them closer together. Nargis was caught in the fire on the set and Sunil without thinking anything jumped into the fire and pulled her out like a hero. Sunil was badly burned, but with this courage he won the heart of Nargis. A year later they both got married.
