WhatsApp Unveils New Features for Chats, Calls, and Channels to Enhance User Experience

WhatsApp is shaking things up with a slew of new features designed to make chatting, calling, and sharing content a whole lot easier. The app, used by over 2 billion people worldwide, is constantly looking for ways to improve the user experience.

Group Chat Overhaul

Group chats just got a whole lot more manageable. You can now see who’s online in real-time, thanks to a new indicator that shows up under the group name. This feature makes it easier to know when people are available to chat. WhatsApp has also introduced a new setting that lets you control notifications in groups. You can choose to get notified only when someone mentions you, replies to your message, or when you get a message from someone you know.

Other notable changes include the ability to create events in one-on-one chats, not just group chats. You can now confirm attendance with a “maybe,” add guests, set an end time, and pin important events to the top of the chat. WhatsApp has also rolled out “touch reactions,” which let you quickly pick a reaction that’s already been used by others.

Calling Just Got Better

The calling tab has been revamped, making it easier to add someone to an ongoing call directly from a chat. iPhone users can now zoom in on video calls by pinching their fingers on the screen, making it easier to see details. WhatsApp has also improved its technology to offer more stable and high-definition video calls, reducing interruptions and dropped calls.

Channel Updates

Channel admins can now record and share up to 60-second video notes, similar to the feature available in chats. Automatic transcriptions of voice messages are also now available. This feature makes it easier to consume content without having to listen to it, which is super useful in noisy environments or when you’re on the go. Channels can now be shared using unique QR codes, making it easier to promote them and grow their audience.
