A powerful film screening recently shed light on the tragic events of October 7, 2023. The Israeli Embassy hosted the documentary We Will Dance Again to honor those lost when Hamas attacked Israel. This special showing took place on October 10, 2023.
The documentary centers on the Nova Music Festival. This event was meant to be a lively party celebrating music, peace, and freedom. Instead, it turned into a battlefield. The Hamas assault on that day resulted in the deaths of over 1,200 innocent people. These victims included both Israelis and people from many other countries. Among them were 46 Thai workers who tragically lost their lives. This attack became the most deadly act of terrorism in Israel’s history. It was also the worst massacre of civilians ever recorded there.
Beyond the fatalities, 255 people were kidnapped. This group included men, women, children, the elderly, and even infants. Thirty-one Thai citizens were among those taken. As of now, 48 individuals are still held captive in Gaza. This number also includes the bodies of two Thai workers killed during the October 7 incident.
Dr. Alona Fisher-Kamm, Israel’s Ambassador to the nation where the screening took place, spoke at the event. She stressed the importance of remembering the Nova Music Festival. What began as a celebration of friendship and freedom quickly turned into a scene of horror. It became a massacre that sparked the current conflict in Gaza. Young people from all over Israel gathered there to dance and cherish life. They valued peace and friendship in a place that should have been safe. In a single moment, those dreams shattered, and the tragedy began.
The documentary We Will Dance Again was made in 2024. It shares the powerful stories of over 20 survivors. They tell tales of bravery, kindness, and heroic acts. The film also uses real footage. This footage was captured on the cell phones of festivalgoers as they ran or hid during the attack. Yariv Mozer wrote and directed this impactful documentary.
