Wasim Akram Speaks on India-Pakistan Cricket Relations and Pakistan Team’s Future

Pakistan’s cricket legend Wasim Akram has weighed in on the stagnant state of cricket between Pakistan and India. When asked about the prospect of resuming cricket ties, Akram deflected, saying he couldn’t comment on what he could change. This comes at a time when diplomatic tensions have led to a freeze in cricketing relations between the two nations.

Pakistan’s Test Team Gets a Boost

Akram suggested that former captain Younis Khan would be an excellent choice as the head coach for Pakistan’s Test team. He believes Younis would make a great batting coach for red-ball cricket and could bring about a positive shift in the mindset of young players. Akram’s own coaching experience with the Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League is a testament to his ability to guide teams effectively.

A Fresh Perspective

At an event in Karachi, Akram shared his thoughts on Pakistan’s Test team, saying, “Younis Khan can be a good batting coach for red-ball cricket. A new coach can help change the mindset of young players and bring a fresh perspective to the team.” He also praised the recent Pakistan Super League (PSL) season, highlighting emerging talents like Hassan Nawaz, Salman Mirza, and Ali Raza. Akram sees these young players as the future of Pakistan cricket.

Akram advised players to be patient and allow themselves time to settle into the fast-paced environment of T20 cricket. He emphasized the importance of giving players time to adjust to the format. With his extensive experience in the sport, Akram’s words carry weight, and his insights offer valuable guidance for up-and-coming cricketers.
