Wolverhampton made a bold statement on Thursday. They announced a contract renewal for coach Vítor Pereira, extending his stay for three more seasons. This news might raise some eyebrows. The Wolves currently sit with four straight losses in their first four Premier League matches. Yet, the club’s leaders clearly still have immense faith in their Portuguese manager. After all, he joined last December and famously saved the team from relegation.
Pereira spoke to the club’s media, his words brimming with emotion. “I am very proud to be the coach of Wolverhampton,” he stated. “It is an honor for me. This is the club that gave me the chance to come to the Premier League, truly the best league in the world.” He shared his deep connection to the place. “The people here welcomed me like a family member. My team and I feel very good in the city, among the fans.”
His belief in the club’s future shines through. “That is why I truly believe that, with our work, with our fans, with the support of the club, of the fans, and of the city, we will succeed,” Pereira continued. “We will raise our level. We have the ambition to make our fans proud on the field.” He stressed the importance of togetherness. “This is the moment when we need to be united. We are a city with a single club, and this city loves football. It is a passion.” Pereira concluded with a rallying cry, “This is the spirit that we need to create together, to face and compete with the best teams in this league.”
