Vitalik Buterin Proposes Roadmap to Enhance Ethereum L2 Security

Ethereum’s cofounder, Vitalik Buterin, has laid out a roadmap to boost security and efficiency on the network. He wants to introduce a new validation model that checks transactions in multiple ways. This approach would make transactions more reliable.

Here’s what Buterin proposes:

  • A hybrid validation system that uses different methods to verify transactions
  • New “rollups” that can confirm transactions almost instantly
  • A shift from “public goods” to “open-source funding” to support projects that add real value to the ecosystem

Buterin’s plan aims to make Ethereum’s layer 2 solutions more secure and efficient. He suggests using a “2-out-of-3” validation system, which would use three different types of verifiers: Optimistic rollups, zero-knowledge proofs, and trusted execution environments. This approach would reduce the risk of errors and make transactions more reliable.

The new rollups, dubbed “stage 2 rollups,” would enable almost instantaneous confirmations. Buterin also wants to maintain a 30-day update cycle to ensure stability and prevent problems when introducing new features.

Buterin is also proposing a cultural shift in how projects are funded within the ecosystem. He wants to move away from the term “public goods” and towards “open-source funding,” which would prioritize transparency, real value, and shared progress. This approach would empower developers who create meaningful solutions, rather than those who are skilled at managing public perception.

The proposed changes are part of a broader vision for Ethereum’s future, where layer 2 solutions are faster, more secure, and more resilient. Buterin’s roadmap is set to guide Ethereum towards a new era of growth and innovation, with a focus on decentralization, security, and meaningful progress.

These developments come as Ethereum is counting down to the arrival of its next major update, Pectra, which is expected to take place in late April or early May. With Buterin’s proposals, Ethereum is poised to reinforce its foundational pillars: solid decentralization, secure infrastructure, and innovation that benefits the greater good.
